Derek Anderson Football — Week 8.

Chris Weinke Dinky Do.

Has anyone noticed the old minor-league baseball to quarterback career path hasn’t worked too well lately?  I’m trying to think of someone.  John Elway?  Maybe someone that actually has done some research could correct me, but I am thinking of names like Drew Henson, Josh Booty, Akili Smith.  Of course there was Weinke who showed up at Florida State with his pop-gun arm and unprecedented “maturity.”  We heard Weinke was 26 or so, and there was the cute story about Coach Bowden promising that scholarship, but after Weinke used his “seasoning” to tear up college football he was properly identified as a stiff in the NFL.  Perhaps the sad thing is that Weinke actually had more success than many of the other baseballers, but I’m sure he would have picked up a DA Award or two in his day.  Among his worst performances, a 15-36, 3 INT performance on January 6th, 2002 against New England.  The game effectively ended the “Weinke Experiment.”
