2011 D.A. Football — Week 14

Beat Yale.

This is it.  The last week of the regular season.  We’ve finally lost a few participants.  We’ve got 1 man in the playoffs and 5 teams fighting for the last 3 playoff spots.  It’s been an up and down year.  Things started off a little slow as it looked like every passing record the league ever had would be broken, and broken repeatedly.  Then, QB play went in the tank.  We love that, and D.A. scoring went skyward.  But, the last couple of weeks have been hit and miss, guys exploding, guys imploding and you’ve had to know when to start a guy and when to sit him.  No QB represents that better than the old bearded pick-tosser himself, Ryan Fitzpatrick.  Fitzy scared people off with a hot start to the season, remained 0n the bench through his glory days, and then popped back up to submarine a season in week 12.  Ivy Leaguers.

What we may have forgotten about Fitzy is that he’s spent most of his life in the NFL as a terrible QB.  He was never on the fast track.  Let’s put it that way.  He actually started his career in St. Louis.  Who knew?  Perhaps irate Bills fans, but few others.   And, it was late in the 2005 season, with those fighting Rams that Fitzy did some of his best work.  Drink in a December 12th loss to the Vikings.  Minnesota wins comfortably, 27-13.  Doesn’t sound so bad.  But, wait.  Fitzy was active, and he was all over the place.  He slung it 26 of 45 and sprinkled in 5 picks.  The kicker is, he had a rushing TD.  The moral of this is, when a guy is putting up  about 50 D.A. points way back in ’05, don’t think he’s shaken that bug just because it’s 2011.  Ryan Fitzpatrick, the great enigma.
