Welcome to the last week of the regular season in the inaugural year of DA Fantasy Football.  What a year it’s been.  I think support has kind of died down to a few die-hards who are in still in the running for the crown, but it was, at least, an entertaining experiment.  On that note, we’re going to try to go out with a big finish in our honorary D.A. of the week capsules. Todd Marinovich shouldn’t be a mystery to any student of awful quarterback play.  He was everything Ryan Leaf was, and so much more, way before Leaf’s time.  The kid who was raised to be an NFL quarterback from birth actually made it to the league.  Unfortunately, it would be a short taste of the big-time.

Marinovich got involved with drugs and eventually flopped out of the league.  He became a cautionary tale.  He was a little bit like Josh Hamilton without the heroic comeback.  There was some talent there.  He had a couple of serviceable starts for the Raiders, but the truth is he hardly got much of a chance.  He did have one beauty of a D.A. performance, though, and in what appears to be a recurring pattern, it happened in the last game of his career.  Playing YOUR Philadelphia Eagles on November 8th, 1992, Marinovich completed one of my favorite DA feats.  He had as many interceptions as completions.  He was 3 of 10 for 25 yards and 3 picks.  Adjusted yards per attempt a gaudy (-11.00). Way to go out with a flourish, you crazy redhead: over 50 DA Fantasy points.  Jay Schroeder came in for relief, and Marinovich was never heard from again.
